What sort of therapy do I offer?
I am an integrative/humanistic/organic counsellor — I take whatever I need from different types of therapy to design an approach that works for you, as an individual. I work with parts and the whole, exploring the past and focusing on the future of each person.
Below is a brief description of some of the tools I use:
Integrative Therapy, uses several different therapeutic approaches to support the client in all situations, taking into account you as an individual and your circumstances, and using elements of different approaches to help you explore and cope with your problems.
Humanistic Therapy is about free will, self-discovery and achieving your full potential as a human being, rather than concentrating on individual problems or symptoms. It looks at everything that makes you who you are and focuses on you as a unique individual and your relationship with the world around you.
Organic Therapy focusses on what happens in the counselling room, changing priorities and approaches to suit the developing therapeutic relationship.
Transpersonal Therapy considers the whole person, honouring the innate capacity of a person to find a way forward in life. It acknowledges that a person may have lost sight of this capacity and/or may never have consciously known it. It is an approach which focuses both on the here-and-now and on the there-and-then, is interested in potential and possibility, and in how an individual creates a meaningful and purposeful life.
Experiential Therapy uses expressive tools and activities—such as role-playing or acting, props, arts and crafts, music, animal care, guided imagery, or various forms of recreation—are used to allow clients to re-enact and re-experience emotional situations from their past or their relationships. The client can explore and cope with feelings of anger, hurt, or shame, related to their past experiences, that may have been ignored or pushed away previously. This includes parts and inner child work.
Pet Therapy. I offer sessions with my therapy lizard Wrathion. Having an animal present, especially a calm and unusual one, can help the client distract themselves from their problems and explore their issues with lower stress levels.
